I was in your spot 3 years ago and it is different once you return to civilian life. There are alot of answers to this...investing, a house, it depends on what you want and how much you have. I started my own business in networking and it is going great. It all depends on yourself. We all thank you for your service.

At 8 years old, I said that index funds were the best. With lower costs, at age 22, I was even more convinced.

There are two primary strategies, low cost and performance. Index funds are likely to provide average performance at minimal cost and mutual funds are likely to provide below average performance at a moderate cost. Still, some advisers believe that buying high consistent performers are the way to go while others criticize that strategy because of the likelihood that the returns will return to the mean and thus these funds will underperform; a great example is the Fidelity Magellan Fund. Funds have the problem of central tendency and as more people flock to the fund as a result of its stellar performance, the more the fund has to spread out its assets and thus there is less of a capability to outperform the market regardless of its amount of research. Moreover, the fund may move stock prices thus when it purchases stocks, it moves stock prices higher (and thus pays more) while when they sell, they may push stocks downward (and thus receive less) and thus it further underperforms the market. Index funds tend to be mutual funds or ETFs that have a very low turnover rate and have very low expenses. Schwab and Vanguard have some great index fund products.

I like the pundits who believe investing a vast majority in index funds (i.e. 60-70%), put maybe 20% in mutual funds, and then invest 10-20% of the portfolio in individual stocks (also called the Mad-Money portfolio).

Diet Guidelines

One diabetic strategy is to consume very small low-carbohydrate meals about every 2 hours, with perhaps a sugar-free jello or pudding snack in between. Calculate approximate daily calorie consumption for weight loss objectives.

Wal-Mart sells a 16-ounce bag of World Kitchens beef jerky for around $9.00 . . cut up and weigh 1-ounce portions. Jennie-O turkey franks (cut up and boil to reduce fat and sodium). String cheese sticks. 1-ounce portions of peanuts. Sam’s caffeine-free diet cola has zero carbs, calories, and sodium.

Blend sugar-free pudding powder with water and low-carb (around 4 grams) vanilla yogurt instead of milk for 1/2 cup servings. For a sugar-free slushy, blend 1/2 cup vanilla pudding with around 1-1/4 cup A&W diet root beer and 6 ice cubes.

Prepare 1/2 cup portions of sugar-free jello in 1-cup containers. If desired, sugar-free vanilla pudding can be added before chilling.

Sugar-free chocolate pudding makes good fudge pops.

Make sandwich rolls and small pizzas using low-carb tortillas.

Wal-Mart sells round screw-together containers in the craft bead section which are suitable for take-along beef jerky and peanut 1-ounce portions. The large size measures approximately 2.50” inside diameter by .75” deep, and costs around $2.00 per assembly of 4 containers.

Might also consider taking a daily multi-vitamin, and a 81mg aspirin (if not adverse).

Well, for starters, you should help others around you in the same situation by complaining about the food to an apporopriate authority, and get the problem fixed. As for weight loss, it's mainly about lifestyle, but there are a few things you can do to help yourself. Go for a short walk whenever you can, and do little things to help you do so. For example, if you drive or take public transport somewhere, park or stop a few streets or blocks away from where you where intending to go, and walk the remaining distance. Don't try and eat less: Just eat healthier. If you can't access any good food at the college itself, try going to a greengrocers or supermarket and purchasing some fruit and vegetables: They're both cheap and healthy. If you can't store them, or if you can't go back for a while, get tinned fruit instead, such as sliced pinapple. Good luck.

Just add raw food in his daily diet.Instead of cooking the vegetable, just grate it and only do the topping or mix it with salt and pepper.Sprouts are very good for losing weight without any harm.
Let him have carbo rich food in morning, only salads and raw vegetables for lunch and porridge for the dinner. This diet will definitely help him to reduce weight effortlessly.Cut down all white flour from his diet.Let him take small meals every 2 or 3 hours.Mostly let him concentrate on fresh foods. He can take different fruit each day.He has to repeat the fruit only after 10 days.
He has to go for walking for atleast 40 mts daily.Yoga helps his diabetic and blood pressure under control. So let him do yoga daily like pranayama, breathing exercises and kriyas.

A Diabetic Diet is actually a healthy diet, but distributed in a way to allow your body to process nutrients more efficiently. Diabetics are not necessarily barred from particular food products, but must integrate them in their dietary schedule. Diabetes educators work to assist individual diabetics to work their favourite foods into a diet for them. Much of this is focused on portions, eating smaller meals over longer periods of time and maintaining glucose counts.
